  • The Old Hall Ely is a recently renovated Jacobean manor house, set in its own unique and historic estate of 2000 acres in the heart of Cambridgeshire. Since the Morbey family purchased the estate and house from Oliver Cromwell’s family in 1860, the estate has been developed by successive generations into a productive arable farm and the present generation. The house started to fall into great disrepair and since 1997 Anthony and Alison have been renovating it, to the impressive home you see today. Anthony and Alison, diversified the house in 2010 into a 5 Star gold Bed and Breakfast and an ‘Exclusive Use’ venue that is booked in its entirety for weddings, parties and private dinner parties.

Set on the southern edge of the Fens, the house has spectacular views across farmland to Ely Cathedral. Anthony and Alison have created some formal gardens and a network of relaxed walks around the ornamental lakes, so that you can enjoy the views and the abundance of wildlife.

The Old Hall Ely is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and is run entirely by the Morbey family, who have many years’ experience in hosting private events. We pride ourselves from being the opposite end of the spectrum from a hotel – flexible, creative and personal. You and your guests will be able to enjoy the exclusive use of our beautiful house and grounds and is one mile from Ely railway station which has excellent links to London and the rest of East Anglia.
If your preference is for a Civil Ceremony, you can marry in our stunning oak Garden Pavilion, within the picturesque setting of the Lower Garden and with the dramatic backdrop of Ely Cathedral itself and lakes.

The wedding breakfast takes place in the most up to date traditional marquee, which epitomises the essence of an English Country House wedding. Lined in mid-ivory, with pea lights in the ceiling, this marquee, which is accessed from the Cathedral Terrace, can seat comfortably 150 people and is perfectly suited for smaller parties as well. Having two sides of the marquee that is completely glass, all of which can be opened, it offers the most stunning views of the lakes and Ely Cathedral.

The quality of food is a priority at The Old Hall and we are determined that the wedding feast lives long in the memory of everyone at your celebration. Consequently we have enlisted Daniel Redford to create food of a standard normally found in top quality restaurants. Our Events Team are keen to work with you to create a menu exactly as you wish and are very responsive , with the expertise and experience to create your ultimate wedding feast, at extremely competitive prices.
