  • The ancestral home of the romantic poet Lord Byron, Newstead Abbey is a truly unique venue to host your Wedding Day. With over 8oo years of history and spectacular formal gardens, it is an unforgettable setting to capture striking photographs. Home to 3 families over the generations the house retains its grandeur and monastic structure, which provided much of the inspiration for Lord Byron’s poetry.

Unique rooms are used to host each element of your day, from the Orangery for your wedding ceremony, to the Garden room and French Garden for your pre-reception drinks party. With large windows overlooking the Gardens, the Orangery makes a delightful venue for your ceremony. A sparkling Chandelier lights this beautiful room, originally used for growing citrus fruit for the Byron family. Whilst your photographs are being taken, serve your guests a selection of drinks in the Garden room. This bright dual aspect room has direct access into the French Gardens, which creates a superb outdoor space for your wedding party to use in fine weather.

Your Formal wedding breakfast can be served in our West Front Suite of Rooms. Overlooking the front of the Abbey and the Courtyard, this set of rooms is the perfect canvas to set your wedding breakfast against. Use the same set of rooms for your evening reception and also benefit from the extra outdoor space of the Courtyard (after 6pm).

Marquee receptions are also possible in the Gardens.

The Abbey also has a consecrated Chapel should any couples wish to have a religious service instead of a civil one (Parish conditions apply). Religious blessings can be arranged for couples who wish for a small religious element to play a part in their day. The Chapel was originally the Chapterhouse of the monastic priory that was dissolved by Henry VIII.

Available for hire for wedding ceremonies, drinks receptions, wedding breakfasts and evening receptions.
